Honoring Prof. Kirsi S. Mikkonen – Food Materials Science Research Group – Blog
4th December 2024 was a landmark day for the FoMSci group as we celebrated a significant milestone for our leader, Prof. Kirsi S. Mikkonen. She delivered her inaugural lecture and participated in a ceremony to mark her appointment as a full professor. Kirsi’s inspirational lecture, titled ‘Food for Thought and Thought for Food,’ emphasized the urgency of finding sustainable solutions in food systems and production. She shared the motivations driving her research focus and highlighted the profound impact of our collective work.
Her words reminded us of the meaningfulness of our research and its importance for future generations. In moments of stress or challenge, we can reflect on this perspective and find renewed purpose in knowing that what we do truly matters .
Following the lecture was the inaugural ceremony held at the Great Hall of the University. It was a truly special moment, and we also had the delightful opportunity to dress up and look our best—outside of our usual lab coats!
